September 15, 2011:

The Prawn has an indie pop album coming out, as per our not-quite-so-recent newsletter; though, confusingly, it is not under his real name (which is obviously The Prawn Tris Taylor) but an alias (Benbo).

To further confuse matters, his track ‘I Don’t Have A Lot To Say’ isn’t even on the album, but nevertheless a chap called Tony Johnson has made a brilliant video for it and the point of telling you all this is that he just won Best Music Video at the Walthamstow International Film Festival for it.

Here is the video:

And here is an embarrassing photo of the Prawn gatecrashing Tony’s limelight. [click to continue…]

The Prawn’s indie-pop alter ego, Benbo, has an album on the way.

After one single (‘Black Hole’), one huge Black Hole-themed club night, and a bit of back-and-forth between interested parties, Tris has signed a worldwide publishing deal for the album with Paul Kinder at Cooking Vinyl Music.

Paul launched The Lightning Seeds on his own label before moving to Virgin Records and eventually becoming Director of A&R.  He’s worked with tons of great artists and bands including Scott Walker, the Spice Girls, Daft Punk and the Chemical Brothers.

In 1998 he moved into publishing with Chrysalis, running European operations and continuing to sign writers in the UK including Rod Temperton, Roots Manuva and The Dears.

He joined Cooking Vinyl in late 2008 to take over and expand one of the few remaining truly independent music publishers.

It’s A Long Road… And I Need Someone To Hold My Hand, happily therefore still completely independent, will be ready as soon as Tris has pulled his finger out (hopefully later this year then!).

Here are some Benbo tracks:
